Keeping His Spirit Alive: Family Pays It Forward With Random Acts Of Kindness!

Posted by GreaterGoodness

MaryJo and Shane Dunn experienced a tremendous loss after their 17 month old son Luke passed away after a fight with liver cancer. On the day he would have celebrated his second birthday, they chose to celebrate his life. According to his mother, Luke Gary Dunn was full of pure love and joy, and they wanted to celebrate his memory by passing that feeling along.

The couple went into Fast & Last Tavern, a restaurant in Glastonbury, Connecticut, with the intention of purchasing a gift card for someone else. They bought the gift card for a family that was there to celebrate their own son’s third birthday, and left before this family could thank them. They also left a “Love 4 Luke” wristband and a note explaining why they were paying it forward.

This one act started a chain of kindness, as the couple also bought a gift card for another family that night. On seeing this, the owners decided to start a Pay It Forward program. Each week, members of the public can fill a form on the restaurant’s website to nominate a family for a free meal. One lucky family will receive a gift card to dine at any of the restaurant’s locations in Glastonbury, Plainville or Avon. People handle tragedies in different ways, and this couple feel that the best way to honor their son’s memory is to show love and kindness to others. By doing so, they started a kindness chain that extended beyond that night.
