When you find yourself getting drained at work, you can boost your energy without having to make a run to the gym. Try a few of these simple pick-me-ups to get yourself revved up and out of your energy slump.
1. Eat Breakfast
Eat a high-fiber breakfast, such as a bowl of oatmeal, to keep you energized throughout the day. Studies show that people who make a habit of a healthy breakfast experience less stress, fatigue, and hunger.
Singing reduces stress hormones and gives you a boost of energy. Try singing in the car on your way to work or lunch to give yourself a great day.
3. Take a Walk
Exercise of any kind gets your blood moving, including to your brain to help you feel more energized. Take a quick walk around the building during your breaks or lunch, or try out a treadmill desk to make exercise part of your workday.
4. Get Outside
If you can take that midday walk outdoors, you double up on your energy boost. Look for the nearest park, and feel your energy return as you relax surrounded by greenery. Back at work, open up the blinds to let in natural light.
Sitting in one place all day is proven to be bad for the body and the brain. Take regular breaks to get up and stretch, or head to a yoga class after work to decrease your stress and anxiety levels.
6. Stay Hydrated
If you become dehydrated during the workday, you’re likely to feel exhausted. Remember that caffeine is a dehydrating agent, and stick to water. If you feel even a little bit thirsty, you’re already on the path to dehydration.
7. Eat a Healthy Snack
In particular, eat a few peanuts or almonds. The folic acid and magnesium in these nuts provide energy to your entire system. Stay away from sugary snacks, which give you a sugar rush but lead to a subsequent crash that can make you feel even more fatigued.
8. Surround Yourself With Plants
Plants pump fresh oxygen into the often stale air of an office, counteracting the negative effects of formaldehyde, ozone and other indoor pollutants. Green plants also filter some of these chemicals out of the air, lessening your chances for headaches as well as fatigue.
