Few TV shows that we loved as kids have the power to inspire us as adults. “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” which ran for a staggering 31 seasons, was different.

Watching Fred Rogers greet his puppet friends and don his signature cardigan was a daily ritual for millions of children (and their parents!), and when Fred lost his battle to stomach cancer in 2003, tears were shed around the world.

Today, on what would have been his 87th birthday, what better way to celebrate his incredible legacy than to take a walk down memory lane?

Explore the Neighborhood of Make-Believe once again with the very first episode of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” which aired in 1968. Happy birthday, Mr. Rogers!
