After many years of protecting each other in Afghanistan, U.S. Marine, Jared Heine, and his beloved patrol dog, Spike, were split up after Heine’s brain injuries sent him home. Soon, Heine began struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder and constantly talked about how much he missed Spike. He was so distraught that his mother, Mary, decided to try to track Spike down in order to help her son.

The problem was, Spike was now working with Officer Laura Taylor, and the two had been inseparable for the past two years. Amazingly, as much as she was in love with Spike, Officer Taylor realized that the best thing for Spike and Heine would be to let Spike go.

After three years, Spike and Heine were finally reunited…
