Special Olympics Powerhouse Is Just a Softie Inside!

Jonathan Stoklosa looks like any other bag boy at the Acme grocery store in Wilmington, Delaware. He stocks shoppers’ groceries in their car and smiles at children. But when he hits the gym after work, he transforms into his alter ago Jon, the powerlifter who benchpresses 400 pounds and won gold at the 1999 Special Olympics.

Despite being born with Down syndrome, Jon’s parents never let him feel any different from anybody else, which meant that he was expected to achieve no less than any of his brothers. It is hard to argue that their approach didn’t work; Jon now regularly competes at regular tournaments, often placing in the top three and is much loved and respected by his boss for his work ethic.
